The 20 Best Cartoons of the 90's

The 90's were a golden age of cartoons. We had a blast putting together the 20 best, and we're sure this list will inspire some discussion. Our only criteria was that the cartoon had to start in the 90's, meaning a couple of very late in the decade entries were still eligible. We did make a small exception for one show, but we think you'll agree it was warranted. Enjoy!

20. Darkwing Duck

Production Period: 1991-1995
This Disney smash followed Drake Ballard and his alter-ego, Darkwing Duck. Darkwing and his adopted daughter, Gosalyn Mallard resided in the town of St. Canard and used their powers to perform good acts all over their town. Darkwing Duck was a spin off of the Disney Series Duck Tales.

19. Doug

Production Period: 1991-1994, later 1996-1999
Doug Funnie and his best friend Skeeter got into all kind of adventures in the fictional town of Bluffington. Alongside Doug's dog Porkchop, the trio got into all kind of trouble. Although the show eventually switched from Nickelodeon to Disney, it ran for a total of 116 episodes and even spawned one feature film.

18. Talespin

Production Period: 1990-1994
Using characters adapted from the 1967 movie, The Jungle Book, Talespin was set in the town of Cape Suzette. Baloo the Bear is out of work until he lands a job as a pilot. An orphan boy and former air pirate named Kit Cloudkicker attaches to Baloo and becomes his navigator. The pair share their adventures as Baloo becomes a permanent fixture in the child's life.

17. Rocko's Modern Life

Production Period: 1993-1996
Rocko's Modern life followed the life of wallaby Rocko. The show, which was more adult than anyone could have imagined, was full of sexual innuendos and was written by a man who had no experience with cartoons or kids. After 52 episodes, the show called it quits, but the unique animation and brilliant storylines earned it a place on our list.

16. Pinky and The Brain

Production Period: 1995-1999
Originally starting as a recurring segment on the hit show Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain finally landed their own show in 1995. Pinky and Brain are genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. Each episode involves one of Brain's plans for world domination with Pinky's assistance, and the ultimate failure of that plan. The series took home several Emmys, including the 1996 Award for Best Animated series.

15. The Critic

Production Period: 1994-1995
The Critic focused on movie-critic Jay Sherman, who gained a reputation for hating most films he saw. The Critic brought satire to the masses, in his negative review of each film, frequently offering a list of diseases he would rather have than seeing a movie again. The show ran for only 2 seasons, getting canceled after just 23 episodes. We think it was just a little too brilliant for it's time.

14. Tiny Toon Adventures

Production Period: 1990-1995
Another animated venture by the great Steven Spielberg, Tiny Toon Adventures followed the toons at Acme Acres. Following the everyday lives of characters set to resemble Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester the Cat and Elmer Fudd, they attended school at Acme Looniversity, where they learned how to be funny. Tiny Toon Adventures took home 2 different Daytime Emmy Awards for Animated Show and is ranked 41st in the Top 100 Animated TV Shows.

13. Bobby's World

Production Period: 1990-1998
Bobby's World was truly a unique show. Created by Howie Mandel, the world was shown through four-year-old Bobby Generic's over-imaginative eyes. Bobby faced the same trials as most young kids, but dealt with it through comedy and laughter. The show ended its run on February 23 1998 after an 80 episode run. FOX Kids has released some episodes on DVD, and even created a game based on the intellectual property.

12. Animaniacs

Production Period: 1993-1998
Animaniacs was presented by Steven Spielberg and was the second highest rated cartoon in the 2–11 and children ages 6–11 demographics. The storyline followed The Warners, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, three cartoon stars from the 1930s that were locked away in the Warner Bros. water tower until the 1990s. Upon their escape, they often interacted with some of the human characters working at the studio. The Animanics took home several awards, including multiple Daytime Emmy Awards. It also comes in at #17 on the All-Time Best Cartoon Lists.

11. King of the Hill

Production Period: 1997-2009
King of the Hill follows the Hills, a Methodist family from Texas, and their mundane, everyday sort of life. Since it's creation in 97, King of the Hill has been nominated for 7 Emmy's with 2 wins, and was even named one of Time Magazines Top 100 Television shows of all times. 'Hill' was recently canceled to make way for 'The Cleveland Show' (a Family Guy spin off), but the show finishes as one of the longest running prime time animated shows of all time.

10. Space Ghost Coast to Coast

Production Period: 1994-2004
Space Ghost Coast to Coast was one of the most refreshing and inventive cartoons to come out of the nineties. Set up like an animated talk show, the series brought back 60's cartoon Space Ghost as the awkward, and sometimes painful show's host. Space Ghost's question often left the guests feeling confused and the audience was sometime led to believe the guests didn't even realize they were on a talk show. The cartoon was even equipped with a laugh track. Space Ghost opened up the network to other "talk show" concepts, which eventually made the way for spin offs like Cartoon Planet and The Brak Show.

9. The Tick

Production Period: 1994-1996
The Tick is one of the animated series that didn't run for very long, but reached cult status quickly. The Tick focused on a super hero who was well known for his "Spooooooon!" battle cry and his skin-tight blue suit. This satirical take on the super hero craze is considered one of the best animated series of all time, even though it only ran for 36 episodes.

8. Ren and Stimpy

roduction Period: 1991-1996, later 2003 Ren and Stimpy, a dog/cat pair, were one of the most neurotic duo's to hit television in the 90's. When the show first started, it was described as frightening and often violent, which paired with the slow production schedule, caused the shows first director to be fired. When the show came back in 1993, it was re-formatted to suit the masses, and eventually led to four years of success for the show. The duo returned to television briefly in 2003, only to be removed once it began delving into plot-lines that were considered "too adult" for television.

7. Spongebob Squarepants

Production period: 1999-Present
When Spongebob Squarepants premiered on May 1 after the 1999 Kids Choice Awards, Nickelodeon didn't know they had just launched one of the most popular kids cartoons of all times. Spongebob reached popularity in the middle of its second season, and hasn't slowed down since. The low-budget show proved that you didn't have spend a lot of money to make a lot, and eventually made way for cartoons like 'The Fairly Odd Parents' and 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'. The show follows a sea sponge (Spongebob) and his best friend star fish (Patrick) on several of their adventures around their hometown of Bikini Bottom. The show is made to be enjoyed by kids and their parents by including more adult innuendos and soundtracks that feature artists like Wilco, The Shins, Twisted Sister and David Bowie (who appeared in the shows most watched episode of all times). Spongebob is still going strong and can be viewed on Nickelodeon!

6. Daria

Production Period: 1997-2002
Daria, a spin-off of Beavis and Butt-head, also aired on MTV. Daria followed a misanthropic, intelligent high school aged girl (Daria) and her daily encounters with the world around her. The show often referred to the unfortunate circumstances that usually affect teens as well as references to pop culture, especially music. The series followed Daria through her awkward high school years and ended eventually with her graduation and acceptance into college. After 65 episodes and 2 TV movies, the series called it quits on January 21st of 2002.

5. Family Guy

Production Period: 1999-2002, 2005-Present
Much like Futurama, Family Guy took everything positive from the cartoons of the early 90's combined it with the lack of political correctness of the 2000's and forged it's way through the depths of animated comedies. Family Guy, which first aired on January 31 of 1999, is one of the most iconic cartoons of all time, even producing a spin off show in 'The Cleveland Show'. Focusing on the Griffin family, the show follows their day-to-day life in suburbia. The show often features other characters (Cleveland, Quagmire) but most story lines revolve around Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg, Stewie and their trusty talking dog, Brian. Nothing on Family Guys is what it seems, but it seems like everything you'd want to see in a cartoon.

4. Futurama

Production Period: 1999-2003
Futurama might barely make our list, only premiering on March 28, of 1999, but the quality of the show makes it a must include. The show is essentially a workplace comedy, focusing on three main characters, Bender, Leela and Fry as they go about their days as 'Planet Express' delivery employees. Futurama was officially canceled in 2003, but can still be seen as syndication on Comedy Central.

3. Beavis and Butt-head

Production Period: 1993-1997
Beavis and Butt-head first appeared on television on MTV back in 1993. Beavis and Butt-head are two teenage guys who get by obsessing over music videos, contemplating their sarcastic version of life and testing out really bad ideas. The show ended in 97, but it is still considered a pop icon of the nineties.

2. South Park

Production Period: 1997-Present
A cartoon that focuses on 3rd graders at a Colorado elementary school. It doesn't exactly sound the like the recipe for a successful television series. But South Park is possibly the most successful animated series of all times. Since 1997, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny have been presenting political topics and taboo topics with a comedic ease that leaves audiences laughing, even when they know they shouldn't be. In 2000, the boys made the switch from third to fourth grade, where they have remained ever since. During the first 5 seasons, the show was infamous for killing Kenny near the end of every episode, then bringing him back the next week with no explanation of his death or return. The show always reflects pop culture phenomenons, or current fads in society, addressing everything from 'High School Musical' hysteria to 'The Lord of the Rings' madness. After a motion picture and over 180 episodes, South Park is still going strong, and will be for at least a couple of more years as it has been renewed through 2011!

1. The Simpsons

Production Period: 1989-present
Probably one of the most iconic cartoons of all times, we realize 'The Simpsons' didn't technically get their start in the 90's, but since it was just a couple weeks shy we felt we could bend the rules a bit. The original run date was December 17, 1989, which was a date that set the bar for all cartoons in the next decade. The Simpsons quality has certainly declined of late, but during the 90's it was consistently cranking out top notch entertainment, and easily takes the top spot on our list of best 90's cartoons.

The 5 Worst Sleep Mistakes that Hinder Your Beauty Sleep

We're excited to present this article from one of our favorite sites, Allure!
On so many nights this past year, I've felt like the star of a cruel reality show called "My Worst Sleep Ever." I wake up constantly, if I fall asleep at all. Sometimes I jerk awake because I'm freezing cold; or I'm tossing off blankets because I'm overheated and sweating. It seems the only time my bed feels comfortable is the moment my alarm clock begins blaring in the morning. I wear a light-blocking sleep mask; I have the soothing white noise of my fan to block out city traffic; I splurged on 800 thread count sheets. Still, nothing. What more can I do?
Turns out, it's more about what I shouldn't be doing. In "Slumber Party," a story in Allure's December issue, we asked the best sleep doctors in the country to share their most effective tips. One section in particular caught my eye: "The Five Worst Sleep Mistakes"—I do three of them! Here they are:
To find out what's keeping you from getting your beauty rest, keep reading.
  1. TV too close to bedtime. The light and the content are both incredibly alerting.
  2. Napping. "The need for sleep builds over the day and should peak right around when you go to bed at night," says Phyllis C. Zee, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Northwestern University in Chicago. "Naps dissipate this momentum."
  3. A Nightcap. Drinking alcohol makes you "much more likely to wake up multiple times during the night," says Zee.
  4. Pets in the bedroom. Dogs snore, and cats prowl.
  5. Oversleeping. Not everyone needs eight hours — "the range is huge — from four to 11 hours," says Mark Hahowold, director of the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center in Minneapolis. Consider how much you tend to sleep at the end of a long vacation. Then see what happens if you get that much sleep. If you wake up just before your alarm goes off, that's your magic number.

The Power of Gratitude Can Transform Your Life

    Author: Sandy Bidinger

True inner transformation will come to you when you practice gratitude.  Follow these steps to develop an attitude of gratitude. THE best way to raise your vibration and attract what you desire.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to practice gratitude when you are following your path to personal development growth.

Think of it not only as a tool for transformation but as a way of life.

Now, if you have wrapped your mind around the fact that we are all energy then you realize there is no separation and we are all connected. Everything is energy with it's own rate of vibration that attracts things of like vibrations to it. That of course includes our thoughts. And thoughts, feelings and words of gratitude are some of the most powerful and they allow for great positive shifts to occur.

#1. BE THANKFUL IN ADVANCE: It has been said that the most powerful form of gratitude is the kind which you express in advance of your actual experience. The expression of faith that this requires allows for the most effective type of vibrational shift.

#2. FIND THINGS TO BE GRATEFUL FOR IN BAD SITUATIONS: Focus on someone you have a conflict with or on a negative emotional situation in your life. You then look for things to be grateful for in those situations. They may not be obvious, but they are ALWAYS there.

Be grateful... that you only have to deal with this person once a month, that if it weren't for this situation - you wouldn't have met a new friend, that this situation now offers an opportunity for growth...

A newer, more positive energy will be come from this especially since you had to look deeper into yourself to find the gratitude.

KEEP A GRATITUDE JOURNAL: It's a good practice to take 10 minutes a day to write down things you are grateful for and that bring you joy. They can be big or small as long as you tune into the feelings of gratitude for having them in your life right now.

Be grateful for: a stress-free commute to work, a call you got from an old friend, a delicious meal, a hug from your child, a compliment you received from your boss, a great night's sleep, an invigorating workout...

DO A GRATITUDE WALK: As you're strolling with the kids, walking the dog, or doing your chores, look around and rattle off as many things as you can think of to be grateful for. Tell the Universe out loud what you love about your life.

HAVE A GRATITUDE ROCK: This is something I first saw in The Secret movie. Find a small rock and keep it with you throughout the day and let it remind you to state something you're grateful for whenever you touch it.

WATCH A GRATITUDE AFFIRMATION VIDEO: Go to or and watch free affirmation videos.  Make it part of your daily ritual and a powerful gratitude exercise.

WRITE A GRATITUDE LETTER: Write a mock letter to someone very important in your life who would be excited for your news. Tell them how grateful you are about this wonderful thing that has happened in your life. Doing this exercise will bring about intense emotions and will put you in a joyful, grateful vibration.

"Hi Julia, The most exciting thing happened to me... I couldn't wait to tell you about it.  I went to the gym a few weeks ago and was working out and got to talking to the girl next to me.  I told her about the new web business that I just launched and she was so interested that she interviewed me for a local newspaper article.  It created tons of traffic to my website and I made some big sales too.  I am SO grateful that I met her that day."

TIP: You can even write this "as if" that something happened to try and attract it into your life.

DO THE MIRROR EXERCISE: Talk to yourself out loud while looking into a mirror. Express your gratitude and appreciation. If you use EFT, tap around at the same time. Later on, you can use this image of yourself tapping in a visualization for a quick, enhanced gratitude refresher.

Just make sure you practice gratitude every day. Create a routine that's easy and sustainable.

When it comes to creating and experiencing the kind of life you want, it's a law of the Universe that it will always deliver in the right time for the right vibration of your body.

So if you practice gratitude, you will energetically raise your vibration and speed up the process of attracting what you desire.

There is truly NO BETTER WAY to do that than when you have an attitude of gratitude.

    • 1/2  (15-ounce) package refrigerated pie dough (such as Pillsbury)
    • Cooking spray
    • Streusel:
    • 1/3  cup  all purpose flour
    • 1/3  cup  packed brown sugar
    • 1/2  teaspoon  ground cinnamon
    • 2 1/2  tablespoons  chilled butter, cut into small pieces
    • Filling:
    • 5  cups  sliced peeled Granny Smith apple (about 2 pounds)
    • 1  cup  granulated sugar, divided
    • 1/2  teaspoon  ground cinnamon
    • 2  tablespoons  all-purpose flour
    • 1/4  teaspoon  salt
    • 3  large eggs
    • 1 3/4  cups  fat-free buttermilk
    • 1  teaspoon  vanilla extract

    Preheat oven to 325º.
To prepare crust, roll dough into a 14-inch circle; fit into a 9-inch deepdish pie plate coated with cookig spray. Fold edges under; flute. Place pie plate in refrigerator until ready to use.

To prepare streusel, lightly spoon 1/3 cup flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Combine 1/3 cup flour, brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Place streusel in refrigerator.

To prepare the filling, heat a large nonstrick skillet coated with cookig spray over medium heat. Add sliced apple, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; cook 10 minutes or until the apple is tender, sitrring mixture occasionally. Spoon the apple mixture into prepared crust.

Combine remaining 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, salt, and eggs, stirring with a whisk. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Pour over apple mixture. Bake at 325º for 30 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 300º (do not remove pie from oven); sprinkle streusel over pie. Bake at 300º for 40 minutes or until set. Let stand 1 hour before serving.

    2011 Hair Trends Watch

    Written by Tania Braukamper

Like all fashion trends, hair trends generally come, go, and then come back. Infrequently, though, there is the odd hairstyle that appears to have had its time only to soon reappear, though thoroughly evolved.
The bob and fringe (bangs) may be one such hairstyle.
Surging to popularity in 2008 before fading out at the tail end of 2009, I didn't think that less than a year later a come back may be on the cards. And yet here it is, spurred on largely by model Abbey Lee Kershaw.

How is it different for 2010 / 2011?

The bob in 2008 was all about razor sharpness; edginess - often bluntly cut to chin length. By 2009 the bob had softened a little. Fringes were growing out. Messy layers were taking over from blunt lines. But the styles to be seen were still either thoroughly classic, or thoroughly modern.
In 2010 and onwards retro influences will triumph. The trend towards sophisticated '70s dressing will be accompanied by the longer bob, neatly blow-waved under with a straight (but not too harsh) edge.

The same longer bob can, in 2010/2011, also be styled with a '60s twist: back-combed for volume with the ends flicked out, or with a softer folk influence and unfussy styling (think Jane Birkin and Francoise Hardy).

While the fringe isn't mandatory to create a retro-inspired bob, it is, regardless, also returning to the scene. The thickness and cut of the fringe hasn't changed all that much over the past few years; with fashion favouring thick bangs with blunt-cut lines. Wispy or layered fringes are still to be avoided. What you can play with is the length, with a shorter fringe (like the one seen on Abbey Lee Kershaw, below) another option.

Finally, one more way to mix up the fringe in 2010/2011 - round down the corners to add a mod face-framing effect. This can be very subtle, or more dramatic depending on your preference.

Hair colours to wear it with

All and any. There's no real restriction to colour when it comes to the new bob, but we would suggest keeping it to a natural, block colour.

    Self Development Plan

    Author: Igor Silva

Self Development plan is a well thought-out and schemed process to assist individual in organizing their personal, educational and career progression.   A personal development plan is significant if you want to accomplish your truthful realization of success.  The key purpose of this is for an individual to become more valuable, positive, self-sufficient and self-directed individuals.  Thus, achieving any goal requires transformation on a mental and often physical level.  Basically we are not intuitive in perfection in this world, yet we can be one if we work hard to improve our Self Development.  A Personal Development plan is significant if you want to accomplish your truthful realization of success.

Goal Setting - Goal setting plays an important role in every Self Development Plan.  Goal setting is the vein of our Plan to achieve ideal Self Development.  Setting goals make planning more meaningful and shall then on carry a great weight in every step of the way in achieving ideal Self Development.  It will help increase our level of positivity and sanguinity leading to realization.  Getting familiar with your interests is a superior approach to Goal Setting.

Motivation - Motivation serves as our power to transform our plans to success.  Interest is an important motivator for all entity.  Every person has their respective and meticulous technique s and drive for getting motivated or keyed up.  Nevertheless, always remember that motivation that comes from within really makes the difference.  Motivation works effectively as soon as you have a Personal Development plan and goal in mind.  When you know your purpose   and you know your interest you'll then be acquainted with your motivation.

Focus - concentration on getting to the precise path to achieve ideal Personal Development is quiet important. Paying attention on the details of your life, career and education is an edge to reach ideal Personal Development in the soonest possible time.  Sometimes due to  having more responsibilities  and priorities, we lost our focus to what is more important subsequently writing your goals would help  you remind  your plans  because  having that reminder  can be a valuable tool in keeping you on track.

Here is a sample pattern of Self Development Plan you can make that can work as your guide in conceptualizing your goals.

    1.       What is my present status – this list must consist your current standing and your strength and weaknesses. The feedback you hear from others about your attitude and character. What are your performance gauge and lastly your conclusion?

    2.       What is your desired level of Ideal Development as a person - this list must include desired status you would like to achieve and improve. Your reason why you would like to improve and this list must include your long term and short term goal.

    3.       What are my action plans, what are needed? -  This list must contain your necessary action on how you can bring your plans to life. Such as techniques to develop the area of your expertise and or to improve your weaknesses. Consider your possible resources such as training, seminars or self help books. If you are having issues on controlling your anger you can look for the local anger management class within your locale.

    4.       Timeline - this is very important this list must comprise your focus for the day and the time line or date to achieve it. Proper scheduling is necessary so you can be able to know if you are heading toward progress.

Life is a great deal when you have a Personal Development plan. The secret is to stay positive, think broadly enough but never lose your sense of balance.  And it's very important that you enjoy every process of your Personal Development Plan.

    Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2010

The 16th annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be air live  on November 30 featuring 152 models from around the world. The brand is notorious for creating “over the top” lingerie, and showing it off with some of the world’s most beautiful girls too. Since 1994 Victoria’s Secret’s fashion extravaganza has been one of the most anticipated fashion events.
This year Victoria has slated Grammy Award winning talent to provide the musical entertainment for the show. Akon and Katy Perry will grace the show with their talents, while models Adriana Lima,  Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Chanel Iman, Lily Aldridge, Erin Heatherton, and Behati Prinsloo flaunt this season’s selections across the runway. The show will air on CBS across the US on November 30 at 10:00 EST.
Maybe the highlight of this year’s show, supermodel Adriana Lima will wear the now famous $2 Million dollar Bombshell Fantasy Bra. Other than the fashion event, the night will include a red carpet interview event, behind the scenes looks, and more promotional and entertainment notes. And for those in search of Katy Perry tickets, or perhaps a Victoria’s shopping spree, an ongoing contest at the VC website could help there.
And, check out the Victoria’s Secret Facebook pages for other surprises. We leave you until the 30th with the YouTube video below of backstage at the event. The angels of Victoria’s Secret have never been in more pure (or at least true) form apparently. One negative though, casting Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has for some wondering who was in charge, Sorrentino being infamous for tasteless blurbs and the like – but no one could really goof up a fashion show – except a bad designer perhaps.

And to my surprise I hear that researches are trying to make a chip that goes into your smart phone and you pee on it to test for STDs. So I then have to investigate what is going on, so I do. And I find that this is still in the research phase and that millions of dollars is going to this research. It seems that you will pee on a usb stick and plug it into your phone for instant results. So women if you have ever taken a pregnancy test this should be easy for you. Although it seems gross and unsanitary it would be better if you know upfront if your partner has an std. So much for everyone wanting to see your phone. Get ready to start saying " Hey, sorry but can you pee on my phone?"
