A 44-year-old woman in New Zealand had a stroke from a hickey. Yes you read right, a hickey. She decided to go to the emergency room after she was sitting watching TV and realized she couldn't move her left arm. Doctors concluded that yes it was a stroke but couldn't figure out why. Near a major artery they found a "love bite" there was a clot in the artery beneath the hickey. Dr. Wu said "Because of the physical trauma it had a bit of bruising inside the vessel." He also added that the clot traveled to the heart and caused the stroke.
