Do you remember when you went to school and it was Friday? It was pizza day and it was your favorite day of the week. On Thursday the U.S. Department of Agriculture released a new proposed rule that will increase the available fruits, low-fat milk, whole grains, and vegetables. This reduce the amount of sodium, saturated fat, and will make pizza and french fries less available. All of this is part of the Obama administration's attempt to crack down on an epidemic of childhood obesity. Michelle Obama wants this to be of top priority; she has been on Disney Channel trying to reach the youth on healthy eating and what are good portions to eat of each food. She has also said the importance of exercising and getting out and being active. According to a recent studies conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention almost one-third of American children between the ages of 6-19 are overweight or obese. This proposal was praised by public health advocates, they say that will help to encourage better lifelong eating habits.
Doesn't this make you sit back and wonder if this will actually help. With parents buying children fast food every time they ask, will it make a difference in the children's lives? It isn't just about healthy eating, they to find a way to get these children up from a computer desk, or from in front a TV screen and until that changes the rate of overweight and obese children might not go down. But isn't it about time that they are going for a change in school; it is just sad to see pizza Fridays go.
